KEY & EXTENSION SKILLS FOR IELTS (2x50 hrs)
Key Skills covers all aspects of the IELTS test format, anticipated topics, strategies and task analysis, and is suitable for students whose current IELTS level is Band 5 and above. The overall aim is to enable students to have a better understanding of what the test involves and to be able to cope with the material in the given time-frame that the test allows. Students will be shown how to use the self-access facilities in order to upgrade their language skills further in their own time, and also to develop an awareness of their individual needs and how best to address them. It is suggested that students consider the classroom time as about 25% of their total study time – the other 75% being done in their own time. In this way, students can realistically cover the study time required to effectively improve their language ability. Research has shown that it takes an average of 400 hours study to increase by 1 IELTS band.Extension Skills builds on the skills developed in Key Skills and consolidates work done in previous courses. This course has a similar format to Key Skills but focuses more on specific writing skills, particularly for Task 1 writing. There is also more of a learner focused approach to prepare students for the reality of studying abroad.
CORE SKILLS A&B (2x50 hrs)
This course is designed for students whose level of English is not yet strong enough to cope with an IELTS Preparation course. The course has a high level of language input and skills work that is relevant to the IELTS test, although it does not focus directly on the format of the test. The most notable component of the course is the weighting given to writing skills – an area that has usually not received enough attention in General English training.
BRUSH UP! (30 hrs)
This course aims to activate learners’ knowledge of English grammar to develop effective communication skills.
IELTS WRITING (36 hrs)
This is designed for candidates who have particular problems in the area of writing. The courses we run are very needs orientated, using students’ work to focus on the specific problem areas of each class and to direct and re-direct input towards these areas to ensure that these problems are properly addressed.
IELTS SPEAKING (30 hrs)
This course is useful for candidates who are not achieving their desired result in the speaking component of the test. It concentrates on areas of pronunciation that cause difficulty for Thai learners, useful language for possible topics that might come up and how to organize a coherent answer.
